3 Speak to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, and say to them: On the tenth day of this month let every man take a lamb by their families and houses. 4 But if the number be less than may suffice to eat the lamb, he shall take unto him his neighbour that joins to his house, according to the number of souls which may be enough to eat the lamb. 5 And it shall be a lamb without blemish, a male, of one year; according to which rite also you shall take a kid. 6 And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; and the whole multitude of the children of Israel shall sacrifice it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood thereof, and put it upon both the side posts, and on the upper door posts of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. (Exod 12, DRE)
31 And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty. 32 And all nations shall be gathered together before him: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats (Matt 25, DRE)
4 he rose from supper and laid aside his garments and, having taken a towel, girded himself. 5 After that, he put water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. (Jn 13, DRE)
Our Passover Lamb is taken from the sheep and the goats.
His Passion is when he comes in His majesty.
His rising from supper and stooping to wash our feet is how he separates the sheep from the goats. For we are all goats in desperate need of the unblemished lamb.
Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you? (Matt 25:44, DRE) …
… When You sweat blood in the Garden …
… When we deny You in the High Priest's courtyard …
… When Your back is bared to the whip …
… When Your are captive to the Cross …
… You separate us from the goats. You turn kids into lambs.
Tonight is the night of the Lord's Passover, when He washes our feet, that they might tread in His footsteps on the Way of the Cross that He will travel tomorrow.
We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You; for by Your Cross, You have redeemed the world.
