Temptation Comes in Many Forms

©2011, Randall A. Beeler

Tonight, I was vituperating over President Obama's bombing Libya, and my 18-year-old son chanted (as I uttered words that would make a longshoreman blush), "Write-a-blog! Write-a-blog!"

I have decided, in the wake of this get-thee-behind-me-Satan moment, to respectfully decline that offer.

Saint Anthony never faced temptations like this, eh?

Silence says a thousand words.

Vade! Retro draco!!

  1. While I do not deny that the U.S. is involved in far too much, I believe this is somewhat necessary.

Which is the lesser evil? Would it be better to allow this dictator to continue to crush his citizens' human dignity?

To put it one way, "The crushed in human dignity you will always have with you, but me you will bomb."

The question is not whether we should help those oppressed but rather how can we claim ourselves God? By your argument, we are morally bound to help all those whose human dignity is crushed … yet, we cannot cease to crush the human dignity of so many in our nation whose lives are wiped out in the womb, in their illnesses via euthanasia, in their addictions spawned by our civilization's addiction to materialistic hedonism.

And what of the imago dei of those whom we bomb, just because they are soldiers?

The temptation I spoke about above was not merely my own; it's the temptation that the serpent held out to Adam and Eve: eat it because you have such a noble, good reason to.

As great as the USA is, the greatest civilization in history, we are not above this temptation. And every time we succumb to our addiction to doing the wrong thing for the right reason, we bow down and worship our satanic wish to be God in place of God.

Brother, if God has any say in the matter, I ain't goin' there! May God keep Satan behind me, because I just don't have the gumption to on my own.

    In Christ & Mary--Randy
